Learn To Curl Program – 2016
So you’re interested in Learning to Curl – Well, you’ve come to the right place!!!
Since 2013, we’ve successfully introduced over a 100 folks to the wonderful sport of curling. Getting started properly, on the right slider so to speak, is the key to having fun on the ice. Our program focuses on assisting each individual to progress at their own rate with the help of our team of 20 OCA trained volunteer coaches.
This program begins with a full day orientation and luncheon on Saturday October 26 and continues every Wednesday evening from 5:00pm (practice ice) to 7:30pm. We use a variety of videos, activities and games to keep the sessions fun and interesting. On ice sessions will focus on:
- developing balance on the ice
- delivery using a broom, stabilizer and stick
- sweeping techniques
- judging weight and line
- game strategy
The ice will be available for practice and remediation with coaches each week at 5:00. Those interested may enjoy a special weekly feature or order from our Bistro menu, prior to taking the ice at 6:00. While on ice, participants will work with our coaches at a 4:1 ratio. Last year we introduced video analysis to the program and will do so again this year.
Following each session, curlers may relax and socialize in the lounge, and, space permitting, those interested may join the curlers in our Novice League which runs on Wednesday evenings, as well.
A fun spiel and graduation celebration concludes the program in December. The program fee includes the opening luncheon, 2 grippers, use of the club brooms, stabilizers and sliders and a banquet dinner and prizes at the concluding fun spiel.
We hope you’ll decide to give curling a shot and let us help you develop the skills you need to enjoy the game.
